A host of art teachers can testify that I remained lost in class not really trying because whatever I created would not be perfect enough. What was on the paper always seemed to fall short of the idea that got the whole thing started in my mind.

My dad taught me growing up that anything done well is art. I am grateful for that perspective. It has helped me see beauty and skill in places I would have otherwise missed. It also helped me to know that it was ok that I can’t cut a straight line and to this day can hardly stay in lines when coloring. I do art in lots of other ways.

The place I am most creative is my kitchen; it’s my art studio. I am comfortable with those tools and mixing flavors together into something completely different. My need for perfection in my kitchen is silenced by the fun of adaptation. The colors, textures, flavors of food inspire me. My husband can verify how long I can get lost in the grocery store or farmer’s market after all it’s my art supply store!

Recently, I some really kind folks have requested some recipes of mine. So my plan is to start posting some recipes to share what inspires me with you. It will be a challenge! Unless I am baking I usually cook the way my mom does and eyeball the ingredients. But for the sake of sharing I will try to focus and give you measurements. So keep an eye out for recipes here and there and whatever else might be on my mind along the way.

Oh, and thanks mom for not yelling at me when I was 9 and tried to bake an angel food cake that overflowed the pan and caught fire. (I still haven’t mastered angel food.) Also, thanks for pretending to eat the jello mold dessert that I topped with roasted marshmallows and gummy candies on Mother’s Day when I was 10 or so. You did your part in supporting kitchen creativity!

I’m curious what’s your art?

Welcome to my wife’s new blog. I sort of cajoled her into starting this, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it has a slow start!
However, I can assure you what she has to say can and will be at times enlightening, inspiring and challenging. She so often can penetrate the chaff and fluff of a situation, relationship and recipe that I can assure you things could certainly be interesting.
Please feel free to comment to encourage her to post and let those thoughts be known. And I can also most assuredly attest to the fact that Misty definitely Cooks!
